    writingbox:

Sometimes you want to write, but you have no plot ideas. Perhaps your fingers are itchy to write, you want to meet a submissions deadline, a character is bugging you to tell their story, or a single image, phrase, or scene is sitting heavy in your head. But you still can’t find…

  2. Things that say a lot about people:

    • the way which they treat the waiter/waitress
    • how they feel about the weather
    • whether they dog ear pages or highlight in books
    • fingernails
    • and hands in general
    • their preferred creative outlet
    • how much they dread/enjoy talking on the phone
    • whether or not they drink coffee
    • if they ever forget to eat
    • how honest they are with themselves (and others)
    • if they correct your grammar
    • how they treat their parents

Because character design and development, that’s why! -M.E.G.

A weird thing I find incredibly helpful for art/writing.

    deadcantdraw:

Eplans.com is a website that sells blueprints for houses.

This might not seem that helpful but if you want a characters house you can make selections based on what sort of house you want them to live in.

    image

Then browse through the results and find the house you want. Then you can view the blueprints and have a room layout for that house, which can help with visualising the space they live in.

It makes describing generic homes so much easier.

    Instead of whispered, consider:

    • murmured
    • mumbled
    • muttered
    • breathed
    • sighed
    • hissed
    • mouthed
    • uttered
    • intoned
    • susurrated
    • purred
    • said in an undertone
    • gasped
    • hinted
    • said low
    • said into someone’s ear
    • said softly
    • said under one’s breath
    • said in hushed tones
    • insinuated
